Ms. Monica Joseph

Monica Josephis a lawyer from Tanzania with more than 10 years of experience, with seven years in the law firms before joining FINCA. She has an experience in litigation, commercial transactions, negotiating, drafting contracts, company secretarial functions, legal research and advisory services, licensing, regulatory compliance and stakeholder management, merger and acquisitions and project management just to mention a few.

Monica started her career at the University of Dar es Salaam where she earned herLL.B in 2006. She joined one of the largest law firms in Dar es Salaam known as Mbuna & Advocates as an intern for six months where she gained an enormous experience in corporate matters. She later joined Kariwa & Company Advocates as Legal Officer and later promoted as a Legal Counsel of the firm. The firm’s major activities were labour relations, consultancy, NGOs and corporate matters. Monica was responsible with providing legal advisory services to the client companies on a wide range of issues pertaining to the business, labour laws and corporate matters, conducting researches and providing correct interpretations of legal provisions, drafting legal opinions and submissions, drafting and reviewing various legal documents such as Memorandum of Understanding, contracts and agreements, appear in courts of law, tribunals and Commission for Mediation and Arbitration to facilitate litigation of cases, attending clients by listening to their needs and give them spontaneous advises accordingly, providing corporate secretarial services to client companies which included advice on compliance to existing laws, coordination and facilitation of meetings, recording proceedings of meetings and ensuring proceedings are well documented and stored, registering companies, debentures and loan securities with relevant authorities and carrying out due diligence on companies and property and prepared reports on the same.

Working with FINCA, Monica have added much experience on corporate governance issues, secretarial functions, negotiations and drafting of contracts with International companies (e.g. funding contracts), work closely with Bank of Tanzania and liaise the Institution with the central bank, regulatory and compliance matters, decision making, able to work with different people of different professionalism and able to interact with Senior people from different Companies and financial institutions

Monica joined FINCA in March, 2012 as a Legal Officer and later in January, 2014 promoted to a Head of Legal department and Company Secretary. She earned her Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) majoring in Investment and Labour Laws from the University of Dar es Salaam in November, 2013.

At Lexicon Attorneys Law Company, Monica is leading the team of Corporate, Labour and Banking Division. She is married and a mother of 3 sons – Mark, Brian and Billy.
